Transformers: Dark of the Moon Trailer

I’m conflicted: I love the proper 1980s Transformers and I can’t stand the Michael Bay films, but this trailer actually looks quite… decent? Compared to the previous trailers you can actually see what is going on – rather than constant jump cuts, a thousand moving parts and flashing explosions there are wide angle, slow panning shots. This is how you show off your cgi – if the whole film is like this it might actually be possible to figure out what is going on. Has Michael Bay abandoned his teenage-boy-with-too-much-money-and-not-enough-ritalin auteur style? Sure, there are still scenes with ridiculous amounts of cgi nonsense all happening at once, but overall it seems quite sedate (all things considered). I wonder if there will be any hilarious racist caricature robots this time around, personally I am hoping for a big ginger Scottish one called Grimlochness.

Here is my guess at the plot: that shuttle in the background of the screencap is Omega Supreme. Prime’s dialogue “you may lose your faith in us, but never in yourselves” is because humans and Autobots fall out and the Autobots have to leave Earth like in the classic episode “Megatron’s Master Plan”. And then Decepticons conquer Earth like in the comic books series “All Hail Megatron”. Then Shia The Beef shouts ‘Optimus!’ and they all come back and beat the Decepticons.

Also I like how they have replaced Megan Fox. If only they would replace The Beef as well.

  1. My brother pointed out that there aren’t any jump cuts because 3D has a minimum shot length requirement otherwise your eyes can’t keep up, so Bay might be being forced to change his usual style in order to use 3D.

  2. Megatron is the founder of the Decepticon uprising and their most feared leader. Bob Budiansky, the writer for the Marvel Comics series, stated that originally Hasbro took issue with the name, saying it sounded too frightening. Budiansky responded that as the lead villain, that was the point. Hasbro later agreed with his reasoning, and approved the name “Megatron”..`’^
